On September 17, 2026, Éva Márkus and Dorothee Lehr-Balló gave a presentation at the 16th Bavarian-Austrian Dialectology Conference. The international conference, titled “Dialect and Multilingualism (BÖDT 16),” took place in Brixen (Bressanone) and was organized by the Freie Universität Bozen (Bolzano, Italy).

The title of the presentation was “Promoting Dialect, Strengthening Multilingualism: A Language Education Project on the Bavarian Mixed Dialect of Deutschpilsen/Nagybörzsöny.” The presentation introduced a language education project related to the Bavarian mixed dialect of Deutschpilsen (Nagybörzsöny), which focused on preserving the dialect and strengthening multilingualism.

The BÖDT conference series serves as an international forum for Bavarian and Austrian dialects as well as current issues in dialectology. The central theme of the 16th conference was the relationship between dialects and multilingualism, with a particular focus on linguistic diversity, multilingual communities, and the role of dialects in education.

The presentation by Éva Márkus and Dorothee Lehr-Balló drew attention to a unique, local variant of the German linguistic heritage in Hungary, while also highlighting how the promotion of dialects through pedagogical tools can contribute to the transmission of linguistic and cultural heritage.
