The Department’s Main Professional Activities

Teaching activities:

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature was established in 1989 and comprises three sections: English, German and Serbian. The main educational programmes are: specialisations in primary English and German language teaching and bilingual preschool education. Special programmes are dedicated to training primary teachers and preschool educators for education in German and Serbian minority schools and preschools. Other courses include special language courses in English and German for early childhood education students. The department played a key role in establishing and maintaining the Faculty’s first English-language BA programme in pre-school education. Hungarian as a Foreign Language and Studies in Romani Language and Culture have been recently added to our range of courses on offer.

As a reflection of the Faculty’s commitment to supporting and maintaining the identities and language of Hungary’s national minority groups, our Department offers BA programmes for primary and kindergarten education in German and Serbian as minority languages, as well as classes in Romani.

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature has also played a key role in establishing and maintaining the Faculty’s first, English-language BA programme for future pre-school educators.
