Opening ceremony

On 3 September 2025, the Faculty of Primary and Pre-School Education (ELTE TÓK) held its academic year opening ceremony in the ceremonial hall on the second floor. On this beautiful summer day, former students were also awarded honorary diplomas in celebration of the anniversary of their entry into the teaching profession.
At 10:00 a.m., the opening ceremony for first-year students of the BA in Primary Education, the BA in Infant and Early Childhood Education, and the Undivided Teacher Training Programme in Visual Culture took place. In the afternoon, the event continued with the participation of first-year students of the BA in Pre-school Education, the English-language Pre-school Education and Infant and Early Childhood Education programmes, as well as students beginning the MA in Cultural Mediation.
Following the performance of the national anthem, Panna Schmidt-Hernesz, a final-year student in the Primary Education programme, recited a poem. She was followed by Dr habil. Éva Márkus, Associate Professor and Dean of the Faculty, who welcomed the first-year students, invited guests, and family members, extending special greetings to the honorary diploma recipients and to Ferenc Mesterházy, Director of the ELTE Gyertyánffy István Practice Primary School.
The oath-taking ceremony for the first-year students was conducted under the guidance of Dr Judit Szitányi Szabóné, Vice-Dean for Education. The students rose, repeated the oath text as it was read aloud, and made a solemn pledge. As a symbolic gesture of their acceptance into the university community, Dr habil. Éva Márkus shook hands with each of them individually.
Subsequently, Hanna Dóra Árvai, President of the Student Union, addressed the first-year students with heartfelt words of encouragement, delivering part of her speech in English as well. This was followed by a musical performance by Kinga Mátyus, a third-year student in the Pre-school Education programme, who sang while accompanying herself on the zither.
The ceremony then continued with the presentation of honorary diplomas to those former educators who obtained their teaching or kindergarten teacher qualifications 50, 60, or 65 years ago.
The event concluded with a rendition of the patriotic song Szózat, performed by the audience and accompanied on the piano by Prof. Dr János Döbrössy, Head of Department.
During the afternoon session, for the benefit of international students, the proceedings were interpreted into English by Dr Maya Jean Lo Bello, Assistant Professor and Programme Director.
