Budapest can be reached from most European capital cities via airplane, or by train, bus, and car from neighbouring countries. Our airport can be found outside the city, approximately 30-40 minutes from the city centre. In the following GUIDE you can find some information and tips on how to reach the city centre by using different public transport options, shuttle bus services or taxi.

COVID-19 Update

All COVID-19 restrictions on Hungary have been lifted, from March 2022 it is possible to enter the territory of Hungary by public road, railway, water, and air traffic – regardless of citizenship and protection against the coronavirus –, but other general conditions of entry (e.g., a valid travel document) must be provided. There is no obligatory quarantine period or mask wearing in Hungary.

For EU students only.

Citizens of the states of the European Economic Area (EEA) are entitled to enter the territory of the Hungarian Republic in possession of a valid identity card or passport and might stay, not exceeding 90 days, without any special authorization. 

EEA citizens planning to stay for more than 90 days in Hungary must apply for the issuance of a registration certificate and for the registration of residence.

Student coming from outside the EU.

If you are coming from a visa waiver country, you can apply for the Residence Permit for the Purpose of Studies before (and at the nearest Hungarian consulate of your current residence - it is highly recommended) or after you arrive in Hungary.

If you are coming from a country that is under visa obligations according to the Schengen acquis, you need to apply for the Residence Permit for the Purpose of Studies and with this, also a residence permit visa (D-visa), before you come to Hungary.

Public Transport in Budapest

Outside Budapest

There is a lot to explore outside the city! You can use train, bus and boat services to visit different locations of the country.
Budapest has three big train stations with services to different directions. These are Budapest Déli pályaudvar, Budapest Keleti Pályaudvar, Budapest Nyugati pályaudvar. For train information and schedule please visit the following website.
